My strawberries are almost ripe and the fruits are being eaten by something. I have covered them with an old mosquito net, but I don't want to spray. Is there anything else I can do?

I find growing strawberries in hanging baskets under the veranda to be best results. They are least likely to get frost and also least likely to be eaten by birds.
